From Roadside Attractions, comes three films that haven’t been very present in the awards conversation and may generate few nominations if any.
The Homesman
Stars: Tommy Lee Jones, Hilary Swank, Barry Corbin, David Dencik, William Fichtner, Evan Jones, John Lithgow, Tim Blake Nelson, Jesse Plemons, James Spader, Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, Hailee Steinfeld, Meryl Streep
Director: Tommy Lee Jones
Premise: From IMDb: “Three women who have been driven mad by pioneer life are to be transported across the country by covered wagon by the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy, who in turn employs low-life drifter George Briggs to assist her.”
Oscar Chances: Uncertain: The film has its supporters, but it doesn’t seem to get the level of acclaim and discussion most films in limited release need to break through. Hilary Swank could be a nominee in a light year for the lead actress race, but the rest of the film is likely to go unnoticed.
