Synopsis:

From IMDb: “A chronicle of one woman’s 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent catastrophe.”

Review: The film is set in the wild. We get that. The trailer doesn’t have to beat us over the head with the concept, at least not without giving it a bit more of an effort.

(#2-#3) The off-kilter positioning of the first poster highlights the naturalistic elements of the film. The second and third posters sequentially eliminate that and emphasize on Reese Witherspoon, which might sell the film to a narrow demographic, but won’t create the level of curiosity that might bring more to the theaters.

Trailer: B-

Review: The trailer is reminiscent of both Into the Wild (an unfortunate titular comparison as well) and 127 Hours. If you’ve seen both of those films, then you can entirely understand why everything seems so familiar and therefore uninventive, but for those unfamiliar with those films, this could look like a fresh exploration of self-identification and self-healing.

Oscar Prospects:

While the film hasn’t picked up nearly as much traction, Reese Witherspoon is receiving some of her best notices in years, probably since before her Oscar-winning role in Walk the Line. Had she not already secured one Oscar for that film, and her career hadn’t taken such a poor trajectory, she might have been in line to win for this film. As such, a likely nomination may be in her cards.
