Synopsis:
From IMDb: “A story based on the life of journalist Torgny Segerstedt, who alerted the Swedish public to the threat of Fascism in the 1930s.”
Poster: B (2)
Review: The two designs, one English, the other Swedish, aren’t terribly far apart in their design foci. The first uses Nazi symbols to establish its setting, while the other is a little more subtle ghostly imposing Hitler into the image. Both are effective for what they are.
Trailer: B
Review: The trailer drags at times, but still manages to paint a picture of courage in a time of cowardice and danger. Being separated from fascism by a sea, doesn’t keep it from having an effect one the lives of those who write about the atrocities and warn of the potential outcomes.
Oscar Prospects:
Director Jan Troell used to be a Foreign Language film magnet, going so far as to even secure one of his films a nomination for Best Picture. Somewhere along the way, he faded from Oscar consideration. This World War II-centered drama about journalistic integrity could hit just the right notes for major Oscar consideration.
