Synopsis:
From IMDb: “A clerk in a government agency finds his unenviable life takes a turn for the horrific with the arrival of a new co-worker who is both his exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and seductive with women.”
Poster: C / B
Review: An antiquated concept is presented in the first poster, which almost literally exemplifies the premise, but lacks creativity. In the second design, the more bizarre nature of the plot begins to edge out, adding a sort of Monty Python-esque feel to the design. While Python’s posters were much busier, less regimented, that doesn’t prevent the design from popping visually.
Trailer: B+
Review: With a slight touch of Monty Python and a whole ton of Terry Gilliam, The Double is a strange concoction that should appeal to fans of British humor while remembering back to what made Being John Malkovich so much fun.
Oscar Prospects:
Terry Gilliam, whose work is a clear inspiration for this, has not always had luck with the Oscars. A May release isn’t likely to help the film, but it could show up with enough support from critics in Best Adapted Screenplay or possibly Best Production Design.
