Review: The first design is visually interesting, explaining the premise well (if you’ve seen the trailer) and has enough action elements to make appealing. Captain Phillips might consider suing over the second one, which graphically lays out similarly to the Somali pirate film. Otherwise, it’s an undistinguished mess.

(#3-#5) We’ve gone from two designs to 8. All this for a film that isn’t likely to ignite the box office. That said, none of these improves on the original and they don’t really try. The third, fourth and fifth designs are typical character posters. Two actors get to jump through windows, one doesn’t. Seems rather unfair and also establishes that there isn’t much else to this film.

(#6-#8) We follow these up with two foreign designs and one generic action design. The first foreign poster, the sixth overall design, sets itself up a lot like the seventh, a slanted action-oriented poster that tries to tell the audience there’s action in the film. For an action film that might be good, but sometimes you can take the term and concept of action too far. The eighth poster is a slight recoloring of the Paul Walker character poster and does nothing to improve upon it.

Trailer: B-

Review: There’s lots of action, but the plot seems rehashed. It doesn’t seem to be the kind of film that breaks out past very core fans of the predecessor or of Parkour.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
