Review: It establishes the film well, but may make it seem more childish than it actually is. That could muddy the water for its potential audience, which may otherwise be isolated to Oscar enthusiasts.

Review: We’ve seen many stories surviving from the Cambodian conflict, but never have we seen something that looks this inventive. Telling the story of his family life during an oppressive regime, Rithy Panh may have created one of the most fascinating works of art in a generation. This film may just be the one best remembered among all the foreign language documentaries released this year. That’s what the trailer intimates.

Oscar Prospects:

It is an Oscar nominee for 2013, and although the premise would seem perfect for a surprise win, it probably won’t.
