Synopsis:

From IMDb: “Kids For Cash is a riveting look behind the notorious judicial scandal that rocked the nation. In the wake of the shootings at Columbine, a small town celebrates a charismatic judge who is hell-bent on keeping kids in line…until one parent dares to question the motives behind his brand of justice. This real life thriller reveals the untold stories of the masterminds at the center of the scandal and the chilling aftermath of lives destroyed in the process – a stunning emotional roller coaster.”

Poster: B

Review: It’s minimal, but when you have a subject like that, symbolic expression is the best way to go. If you know anything about the film, the poster makes perfect sense; however, since many people seeing this design for the first time won’t have any idea, it’s a tad confusing.

Trailer: B+

Review: Positioning the film as an exposรฉ of the monstrous, unnecessary incarceration of children and earning cash kickbacks for it is a great way to drum up attention. It could even be a nice springboard to examining the U.S. reliance on cash-for-prisoners programs run by corporations.

Oscar Prospects:

It’s a documentary that exposes a horrifying truth about youth imprisonment, which should pique the interest of voters. However, I’m not sure it would qualify for the 2014 Oscars or if it came out at the festivals for 2013 eligibility.
