The American Cinema Editors may predict the Oscar category of Best Editing, but a glimpse into the mind of editors can also bring some clarity to the Best Picture race. Of the ten nominees between Drama and Comedy, all of them are Oscar contenders and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see all ten of them make it. However, August: Osage County is one of the weaker names on this list and I’m beginning to suspect that Nebraska may also be suffering. The rest have had their prospects rise significantly in the last week, so I wonder if we might not be seing at least eight of the ten nominees for the Oscars right here. As for what carries over to the Oscars? Take three of the drama nominees and add in two of the comedy nominees and you probably have your answer. (Comments posted 1/12/14)
