Release Date:
February 14, 2014
Synopsis:
From IMDb: “In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop – is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer.”
Poster: B- / B- / C+ / B
Review: (#1-#4) The first two designs, the full poster and the teaser, are fitting the film’s dark and police-centric storylines. The third design goes for action, but blurs itself from being interesting. The fourth design is stylish and original, though not exactly a great selling tool.
Trailer: C / C
Review: Maybe if I had been a fan of the original dystopian work, this might seem a bit more interesting. As it is, the trailer doesn’t present many reasons to think it will be much better than other recent reboot bombs.
(#2) I’ve seen these trailers so many times in the run-up to the film’s release that they’ve all blended together. This action-light trailer continues the impetus of the first and suggests the film might have superficial depth.
Oscar Prospects:
Back in its day, RoboCop was an Oscar nominee. Today, a February release spells virtual doom for most tech-heavy films.
Revisions:
(September 8, 2013) Original
(February 9, 2013) New Trailer (#2) / New Posters (#1-#4) / Updated Release Date (changed from 2/7/14)
