It’s a good thing they put “The Avengers Cast” in quotes…this is barely the cast. No Scarlett Johansson, no Chris Hemsworth, no Tom Hiddleston and no Clark Gregg, all of whom would have been great to see there. Were they ask? In the case of Gregg, I doubt it. But wouldn’t have also been great to invite Joss Whedon. I know they don’t normally pull in directors as presenters, but the man has a legion of followers. Anyway, here’s the announcement:

BEVERLY HILLS, CA โ€“ โ€œMarvelโ€™s The Avengersโ€ cast mates Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will present together on the Oscar stage, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today.

“We are happy to re-unite the โ€˜Avengersโ€™ cast to present on our show,” said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “Audiences who enjoyed the year’s biggest box office hit will be excited to see these terrific actors back together again.”

Downey has twice been nominated for an Oscar, for his leading role in โ€œChaplinโ€ (1992) and for his supporting role in โ€œTropic Thunderโ€ (2008).

Evans, who will be making his first Oscar show appearance, will be seen in the upcoming โ€œThe Iceman.โ€

Jackson was nominated in 1994 for his supporting role in โ€œPulp Fiction.โ€ He can also be seen in this yearโ€™s Best Picture nominee โ€œDjango Unchained.โ€

Renner was nominated for his leading role in 2009 Best Picture winner โ€œThe Hurt Lockerโ€ and for his supporting role in โ€œThe Townโ€ (2010). Renner had roles in this yearโ€™s โ€œThe Bourne Legacyโ€ and โ€œMission: Impossible โ€“ Ghost Protocolโ€ (2011).

Ruffalo received his first nomination for his supporting role in 2010 Best Picture nominee โ€œThe Kids Are All Right.โ€

Oscarsยฎ for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatreโ„ข at Hollywood & Highland Centerยฎ, and will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
