Welcome to The Morning After, where I share with you what I’ve seen over the past week either in film or television. On the film side, if I have written a full length review already, I will post a link to that review. Otherwise, I’ll give a brief snippet of my thoughts on the film with a full review to follow at some point later. For television shows, seasons and what not, I’ll post an individual comments here about each of them as I see fit.

So, here is what I watched this past week:

Kiss Me Deadly

I will reserve my comments for the Film Club thread which will post on Wednesday.

Community (Season 1, episodes 1-13)

Spending a few hours with the cast of Community is a rare treat. The style, pacing and humor in the show feel at odds with the traditional broadcast sitcom niche. Of course, having seen the early episodes of Modern Family, perhaps this is the direction television is going and I must say it’s for the better. Although the characters are frequently stereotypes, they are nevertheless fun and made more endearing by the eclectic cast. Joel McHale transitions effortlessly from The Soup host to comedy lead. It’s nice to see Chevy Chase back in the comedy business after years of seeming irrelevance. Danny Pudi and Donald Glover make a tremendous team. Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs are all fun with special mention to recurring actors Ken Jeong and Jim Rash. It may not be the comedy for everyone as it’s sometimes abrasive and sometimes a bit obscure, but it’s one of my favorite programs currently running.
