Could this not only be Glen Close’s first Oscar vehicle in ages, but also a triple threat as writer and producer? Or will we have a situation like Emma Thompson where she wins for writing, but not acting? So many questions, but it looks like this one is getting a fall release.

Hollywood Reporter – Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions have acquired all U.S. rights to Albert Nobbs, which stars Glenn Close as a woman passing for a man in nineteenth century Dublin. The companies plan a fall release.

Rodrigo Garcia directed the drama, in which Close reprises an Off Broadway role she played in 1982 that won her an Obie award. Close also co-scripted the film with Gabriella Prekop and novelist John Banville based on a story that Istvan Szabo adapted from the George Moore novella The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs, which also inspired the stage version.

Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, Pauline Collins, Brenda Fricker, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Brendan Gleeson also star. Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn and Alan Moloney produced along with Close.

“Glenn Close appears in nearly every frame as Albert Nobbs, and her performance is masterful,” said Liddell Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell. “This is an intimate film full of big ideas in the tradition of Gosford Park and Sense and Sensibility.”

Liddell and attorney Chad Reineke negotiated for Liddell Entertainment, co-president Howard Cohen negotiated on behalf of Roadside Attractions and CAA represented the filmmakers. WestEnd is handling international sales on the project.

Production companies include Trillium Productions, Mockingbird Pictures and Parallel Film Productions, with support from WestEnd Films and Chrysalis Films, as well as the participation of the Irish Film Board.

Liddell Entertainment has released the films The Collector, Good Hair and I Love You Phillip Morris. Forthcoming projects include The Grey, Silent House and The Collection.

Roadside Attractions recently released Winter’s Bone, The Conspirator and Everything Must Go. Coming releases include Project Nim, The Future and Margin Call.

Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions partnered on the release of Biutiful last year.
