Review: (#1, C) The black-white-and-red motif doesn’t have the impact as it once did and with an action film, it’s not the right tone regardless. (#2, C+) The same color scheme but with different imagery, creating an abundance of detail that will generate some appeal. (#3, C-) Once again with the colors, though this is more red-centric than the others. Fewer background details and a washed out feeling yields another mediocrity.
(#4, C) Another dull black-and-white effort with an aggressive and overwhelming block red title. The subtitle is then almost invisible as a result. Perhaps this would work with someone who has red as part of their color blindness but for everyone else it’s cheap-looking. (#5, B-) The diamond theme is an interesting motif and is interestingly handled. The lack of color detail is unfortunate but it’s probably the best the marketers can do for this film. (#6, C-) This boxy design wants to be considered creative and intriguing but the shadowing is inconsistent and the idea half-baked. (#7-#8, C) Pulling images from a prior design and rather than using black-and-white as a motif, they go black-and-red. It might have worked if the colors weren’t so bright and aggressive.
Trailer Rating: C / C / C+

Review: (#1, C) A haphazard design that tries to get the audience excited for some expectation-twisting thrills but settles firmly into familiarity rather quickly. It’s a film that doesn’t necessarily require familiarity with the first film but certainly needs that to bring back the minor number of fans it had. (#2, C) While there are quite a few differences from the first trailer, especially in how much of the plot it revels in, the action isn’t any more exciting than the first and even watching both of them, there’s no chance this will be more of a non-entity than its predecessor.
(#3, C+) The introduction by the film’s director and Gerard Butler is about as cringe as possible. It’s poorly staged and acted. Then you get the trailer, which looks surprisingly more interesting than either of the prior efforts. Their intro promises stuff you haven’t seen of the film before and that’s true. It’s the best parts of the film probably and the lack of cohesion is very obviously implied.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
