Review: (#1, C+) There’s a simplistic beauty to the landscape and the silhouettes but there’s not enough here to engage the viewer for very long or to generate interest outside the most devoted fans of the animated films and series.

Review: (#1, C-) One of the worst things you can do as a live-action adaptation of an animated film is copy scenes directly from the original. They have an opportunity to expand on what came in the first film but waste that time trying to remind you of the original. The Lion King did the same but did so with a 25-year gap. This one is releasing 15 years later with two films and a series in between so there is no nostalgia built up in its foundation. Pair that with a tepid trailer like this that lacks excitement and looks more like a parody than a genuine feature and you have a recipe for disaster.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
