Review: (#1, C) The design focuses on the power discrepancy between the two characters but does little else to excite the viewer with blurry images and unappealing titling.

(#2-#6) This series of similarly-themed posters aren’t exactly character designs so they don’t make enough sense to be built around a film like this. The designs try to use critics’ responses to stoke interest but the designs themselves don’t do enough to accomplish that.

Trailer Rating: C+ / C+

Review: (#1, C+) What Fifty Shades of Gray did for opening up dominant-submissive dynamics in film is laudable but this looks to play more into the power-dynamics of a relationship between someone with power and someone without and not in the borderline-abusive way that Gray does. That said, the trailer’s a bit cringe in places making it difficult to understand why people are excited about Kidman’s performance.

(#2, C+) XXXX

Oscar Prospects:

The film got a lot of praise for Nicole Kidman’s performance, so she’s obviously a contender. However, there are a lot of women competing for the top prize this year and it’s possible she gets lost in the shuffle.
