Review: (#1, C) The art here, while pulled from the film, looks shockingly bad. The setting and camaraderie of the characters might establish a sense of theme, it won’t have much appeal outside of a narrow segment of anime aficionados. (#2, C+) This is a much better look at a scene from the film with more painterly and aesthetically pleasing art style, which may do better pulling in an audience even if it’s not original to itself.
Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) A traditional Japanese anime unfolds in the first trailer with generic music beats and concepts that aren’t well vocalized. It seems somewhat like a coming of age story for a manga artist but what observations it can make for the viewer aren’t well expressed.
(#2, B-) There isn’t much new in this second trailer but they employ music that’s more appealing on the whole and accentuates the action better. We also get more in depth on the relationship between the two central figures, which makes it feel just a bit more interesting but is perhaps not enough.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
