Review: (#1, C) While I like the concept of using the shell of the snail to curve the titling and the use of brown is an irregular but welcome choice in coloring, the part that resonates is the “coming out of one’s shell” concept. That said, it will be lost on most and the lackluster background will not turn many on. (#2, C+) Using the basic color scheme of the film keeps the poster looking fresher than anticipated but the static shot doesn’t add enough excitement to the design even if it does set viewer expectations.

Trailer Rating: B- / B-

Review: (#1, B-) The shabby style used in the animation is a bit distracting but the effort and care put into the animation itself draws the viewer in. The storyline isn’t presented effectively enough but it should be just enough to entice a small group of theatergoers.

(#2, B-) This new trailer tries to give the viewer more information about the plot without giving it all away and there’s plenty of that here but it still feels like an incomplete picture of the movie. The claymation set pieces are compelling to look at and that might sell the film better than the dull presentation of the plot.

Oscar Prospects:

The unique animation styles (claymation) gives it a novelty that could give it a boost in terms of Oscar consideration but it will have to be good to be a contender.
