Review: (#1, C+) While an interesting concept given the nature of the film, there’s an unnecessary amount of empty space in this design and that doesn’t accentuate the central image very well. (#2, C) The premise is presented more obviously here but none of that genuinely sells the film to any but the most hardcore of Tom Hanks or Robin Wright fans.
Trailer Rating: B+

Review: (#1, B+) The concept has some merit and this trailer does some interesting things with the stationary camera concept. The issue is that there’s a lot of build up and not enough substance in the trailer to sustain a feature-length film. Robert Zemeckis made the gimmick of Forrest Gump work and he largely succeeded with Cast Away. The problem is that you can’t be gimmicky all the time. That for cineastes this looks like a cross between The Tree of Life and Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope does sound interesting it might be too confusing for traditional audiences.
Oscar Prospects:
Robert Zemeckis has struggled for relevancy and quality since the end of the 1990s. This could be a quality endeavor but gimmicks can sometimes go really bad and we won’t know for sure until we see what it looks like.
