Review: (#1, B) This hand-drawn design is intriguing from a thematic perspective and its repulsive details definitely play into the mythos, making this the perfect design for fans of the series and might just entice non-fans as well.

(#2, B-) Simplicity is certainly a design choice and for this film series, it works quite well. That said, it isn’t likely to bring new fans to the theaters but it might intrigue them enough to check out the predecessors.

(#3, B) For those who have a thing for violent horror films, this will be most intriguing for them even if they aren’t existing fans of the series. A solid effort that pulls no punches on what it’s about. (#4-#9, C) These character posters lack originality and distinction and are so unartfully in their color selections that they don’t impress. (#10, C) While it’s nice that we’re back to the bloody elements that made the earlier posters successful. This is a bit tepid by comparison and will reduce appeal to existing fans.

Trailer Rating: C- / C- / C+

Review: (#1, C-) This Christmas-themed teaser is corny and that might appeal to fans of the series, but to potential new viewers, it lacks anything to anchor their interest.

(#2, C-) A teaser and not one that’s particularly compelling. Even fans of the series might struggle to want to see this movie for any reason other than having sunk their lives into the prior two films.

(#3, C+) The first full-blown trailer that really gets into the film’s grossest elements, it certainly makes its impact. The unnerving scene with Santa Claus and the kids certainly puts the film’s threats into perspective and might just entice an audience if they get through the other two films first.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
