A raft of new releases attempts to take down The Super Mario Bros. Movie and I doubt that any of them can. The teen-targeted Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. has perhaps the best potential considering the niche nature of the other releases. Who knows for sure, though, as stranger things have happened.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
Wesley Lovell: The cast is wonderful, but the content doesn’t look that interesting to non-fans of the book.
Peter J. Patrick: The trailer doesn’t do anything for me.
Thomas La Tourrette: I’ve never read the book nor been a pre-teen girl, so I am not the audience this is looking for.
Big George Foreman
Wesley Lovell: The film looks like a cheap biopic with nothing of merit to say about its subject.
Peter J. Patrick: Seems to be a compelling biopic.
Thomas La Tourrette: Boxing movies are not my favorite anyway, and this one looks not to be that good.
Sisu
Wesley Lovell: The trailer looks a bit bloody, but that might be cathartic.
Peter J. Patrick: Looks way over the top.
Thomas La Tourrette: It sounds interesting but the trailer just got way too violent, even if humorously over the top violent, and I was turned off by the end.

The Limited Slate
Wesley Lovell: Polite Society looks like it might be fun and The Eight Mountains has potential.
Peter J. Patrick: Cannes Jury Winner The Eight Mountains and R.M.N., which was also at Cannes last year, look like films to catch at some point. The others look unidstinguished.
Thomas La Tourrette: Aside from The Black Demon, the critics seem to like these films, though none of the trailers was truly selling the films. They might be worth seeing, but I will wait until there are more reviews to make that choice.
