Lauren Bacall, Roger Corman, Gordon Willis and John Calley receive honorarium awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The announcement left most of us Oscar fans a bit saddened that we wouldn’t get to see these winners give their speeches live. At the same time, we’re ecstatic that they’ve increased the number of honorary awards they will give out.
Bacall, Corman and Willis will receive Honorary Oscars while John Calley will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
These will presented at the Academy’s brand new non-televised event in November and portions re-broadcast during the telecast in February 2010. Here’s hoping one of the major Arts players in the cable biz persuade the Academy to broadcast these awards live. Maybe TCM (Turner Classic Movies for the uninitiated) or Bravo would be willing to cough up a little dough to convince the Academy these awards are worth it.
