This week’s wide releases are more horror fodder for audiences, but won’t provide an incredibly strong weekend as a result. Prey for the Devil may struggle to overcome the second week of Black Adam, but as the only new wide release, it will have those who’ve seen those prior films as an available choice.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Yet another possession movie. The genre’s been done to death and nothing about this looks original.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Possession horror film looks a bit too intense for me.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer starts out well enough, but by the end it does feel like just another possession film, and just not that interesting.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Aside from the cast, the fact that there’s no buzz around it makes me concerned.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Pre-Roe abortion drama may be timely, but it seems to be preaching to the choir.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It has turned into a very topical movie, but it may prove too run of the mill to resonate with the Academy.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A very familiar indie premise doesn’t have a lot of good prospects.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Romantic charmer looks a bit slight.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It feels like an all too familiar meet cute movie, though perhaps it will be better than that.
