Trailer Rating: B

Review: For starring two brilliant thespians in roles of a lifetime, the trailer for this stage-to-screen adaptation looks a bit flat and lifeless. Langella looks like he might be better as Nixon than the trailer provides, but this looks more like Talk to Me than it does like All the President’s Men.

Oscar Prospects:

The trailer doesn’t look it, but after the play performed well on Broadway, the film could do the same. With Ron Howard behind the wheel, you have to take any Oscar talk with a grain of salt. I doubt many will forget the abysmal A Beautiful Mind decision. Plus, it puts him on the backburner as a director the Academy “needs” to recognize. However, the film could be fantastic news for Michael Sheen and especially Frank Langella who are both likely to get Oscar nominations and there’s talk Langella could finally win an Oscar.

Release Date:

December 5, 2008

Synopsis:

While it doesn’t feel like it has been adapted from the stage, Ron Howard’s direction isn’t the film’s problem, but the performances of Michael Sheen and, above all others, Frank Langella are well worth your time.
