The Mahershala Ali nomination seems a bit out there. Sounds like a pick they made just to make it seem like they aren’t racist. Yet, they couldn’t find enough votes to nominate Jennifer Hudson for Respect against a rather weak Comedy/Musical line-up. That Belfast and The Power of the Dog did well speaks to their dominance of the season so far. West Side Story did as well as it could without the music categories to bolster its numbers, though missing Adapted Screenplay is telling.
