Looking at the Weekend: May 28-30, 2021

We have our first pair of major competitors at the box office this weekend with the Disney re-origin story, Cruella, facing off against the long-awaited horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II. These two films are looking to help reinvigorate the box office, so we’ll see how well they perform this weekend with Disney’s Cruella the more likely top the box office.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): My initial impression of the film wasn’t a positive one, but subsequent trailers have made me surprisingly excited about this one. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting if iffy prequel to 101 Dalmatians character. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first trailer left me cold, though the second drums up more interest as it gives one a bit more of an idea about the character. I am still not sure this film is needed.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): The first film was terrific. There’s still some hope that the sequel will be as well. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Not so quiet sequel to the 2018 hit looks OK at best. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first film was enjoyable and the critics seem to like this sequel, so it should be worth a view.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): These just didn’t seem that interesting a set of short films. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting collection of shorts. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Short films can be quite good, but the trailer does nothing to showcase any of them, so I have no idea if they would be any good.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): An important topic, but the trailer is rather dull and predictable. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Stylish trans love story is difficult to assess from the trailer. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might prove to be an interesting film about a trans romance, though it takes a while for the trailer to make it seem worthwhile.
