Review: (#1) After hearing good word about this film from its festival run, this trailer makes the film look mediocre and only moderately funny. That said, Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson alone are reason enough to see this.
(#2) The first trailer was an absolute failure in terms of comedy, but this second trailer entirely reframes the film and makes a solid case for it being much funnier than expected.
(#3) A strangely humorless affair with critics’ plaudits and audience excitement doesn’t make for a winning or compelling design.
Oscar Prospects:
The film earned solid support out of its festival debut, so it could make a play at the end of the year, but the first trailer isn’t promising.
