Thanks to its annual raft of exclusions (The Favourite and The Death of Stalin were not eligible) due to obscure signatory rules, the Writers Guild of America has still managed to put together a list of the most commonly cited Best Picture contenders out there. The biggest miss here is Paul Schrader’s screenplay for First Reformed, which along with Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of If Beale Street Could Talk, have won most of the year’s screenwriting prizes. Also missing and damaging their Oscar chances are First Man and newly-minted Globe winner Bohemian Rhapsody.
