The first really strong showing for Eighth Grade outside of the Spirit Awards with the film taking Best Picture honors from Detroit. It was the most nominated (thanks to the Breakthrough category) and now it’s the most honored (also thanks to the Breakthrough category). Vice is performing better here than it has elsewhere so far this season with director Adam McKay taking that prize in an unexpected selection. The only other unexpected choice was Josh Hamilton in Supporting Actor.
