Review: (#1) It’s just a teaser poster, so we shouldn’t expect much from it, but it’s a largely clever one.

(#2) Slightly burned toast with the 50s aesthetic that was never quite a part of the original film. Decent, but unimpressive. (#3) It’s rather unusual that Edna is the front facing sales tool for this series so often. It’s a welcome face, but a strange choice. (#4-#6) These homely designs seem to form a pattern that’s both interesting and uninteresting at the same time. (#7) Another Edna poster, but this one’s a little less stark and a bit less crafty. (#8) More daily activities of a not terribly impressive style. (#9) Even Pixar’s getting into the holiday-themed movie poster concept and it’s not a welcome turn. (#10) A holiday in a tropical environment. Interesting, but doesn’t seem well connected to the film. (#11) We finally have an all-encompassing design that adds a lot to the aesthetic without being too derivative. A few uninteresting spots, but overall a solid design.

(#12-#15) This a rather tepid batch of character posters. While maintaining a motif is a fine thing, letting the motif forever infuse the work without giving it depth is not fine. (#16) Then there’s this derivation on the theme that works far better than most of what they’ve put out so far in its own yellow silhouette kind of way.

(#16) Cute, but a painful reminder of the strange obsession animated films have with doing holiday-themed posters when the film doesn’t take place during that holiday. (#17) Add plenty of cute to the standard design and you have something that’s cute, but inconsequential. (#18-#28) More utterly bland character posters that all seem to blend together over time. They also aren’t terribly original being from multiple nations. (#29) An interesting, starburst design that’s still built on the flawed color scheme that doesn’t seem to have much creativity behind it.

Trailer Rating: B / B / B-

Review: (#1) This teaser trailer introduces some of the superhero abilities of the youngest member of The Incredibles. That he laser-cuts the separation between the numerals in the sequel numbering is an inspired piece, but the rest is a bit predictable and not nearly as exciting.

(#2) There’s a lot to be excited about here, but perhaps not nearly as much as fans of the original would want. The humor’s limited in the trailer, which downplays part of what made the first film so inventive.

(#3) A jumbled mess of a trailer saved only by our passion for the original. That won’t work if it isn’t up to snuff.

Oscar Prospects:

The original was a guaranteed Oscar winner. This sequel is sure to be a major one was well.
