As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).

There weren’t many Christmas-New Year’s week selections announced, so there aren’t many winners or losers and I’ve decided to limit myself to one of each. Now that the holiday corridor is over, expect many more citations in the coming weeks, most notably from the guilds.

But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Big Winners

The Banshees of Inisherin pulled out a double-digit nomination tally from Columbus critics and a further 9 citations from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, which shows a continued strength for the film against the already-buoyant Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Big Losers

She Said, in spite of winning the top prize from Nevada critics, has been treading water all season. Even the strongest perceived contender of Carey Mulligan hasn’t been able to get much this season. Now, with the Alliance of Women Film Journalists barely citing the film, it appears its chances are almost entirely dead in the water.
