The pace of screeners this week was a bit lighter. The first batch is from a company I’m not familiar with (and who didn’t exactly denote they were in the packaging), but they sent two documentaries. Amazon followed that with Annapurna right behind. Amazon came through again with another four films and then Fox Searchlight finished out the week.

The Aeronauts

Oscar Chances: Uncertain: The film has had almost no buzz surrounding it and there just doesn’t seem to be much room in the races for it this year. It’s best chances are in creative categories including Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup & Hairstyling, and Visual Effects.

Booksmart

Oscar Chances: Uncertain: The film was well regarded on its release, but Oscar chatter never really developed. It could be a darkhorse Original Screenplay nominee, but I somehow doubt it.

Fox Searchlight

A Hidden Life

Oscar Chances: Uncertain: Terrence Malick has made so many recent duds that it’s questionable whether this film will recapture his Oscar capabilities in spite of the acclaim it’s receiving. Cinematography is about the only place his films always compete and even that seems iffy.
