Two disparate screeners, the documentary Let It Fall: Los Angeles 1982-1992 and the Netflix purchase Okja.

Okja

Oscar Chances: Unlikely: Netflix’s anti-theatrical release model has been steadfastly ignored by the Academy, its Beasts of No Nations getting the shaft, even for the lauded supporting performance of Idris Elba. This Bong Joon Ho drama has been well received, but it’s been on Netflix for awhile now and unlike Netflix’s counterpart Amazon, they just don’t seem interested in defending the model of business studios and Oscar voters prefer, thus it’s likely to be utterly ignored unless a surprise Visual Effects nomination is yielded. Worse, they had no “For Your Consideration” names listed on their booklet, so who knows what categories they are fighting for, if any.

Oscar Chances: Unkonwn: John Ridley’s documentary is timely, which could help its chances with Oscar voters. However, without knowing what its competition is, there’s no telling whether it will be a frontrunner or an also-ran.
