Tradition has always been that a hot young starlet, typically one with Oscar aspirations (or a recent nominee) announces the nominees for the Academy Awards. This was done because the fellow annoucing partner has always been the President of the Academy who has, up until this year, typically been a man. With new president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, it seems fitting that tradition be tweaked and a male starlet be selected to present with her. And so it comes to pass:
Chris Hemsworth to Join Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs for Oscarยฎ Nominations
BEVERLY HILLS, CA โ Actor Chris Hemsworth and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs will announce the 86th Academy Awardsยฎ nominations on Thursday, January 16. The Oscarsยฎ will air Sunday, March 2, 2014, live on ABC.
Boone Isaacs and Hemsworth will unveil the nominations at a 5:38 a.m. PT live news conference at the Academyโs Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world will be gathered. Nominations information for all categories will be distributed simultaneously to news media in attendance and via the Internet on the official Academy Awards website, www.oscar.com.
Hemsworth made his feature film debut in 2009โs โStar Trek,โ but it was his title role in โThorโ two years later that propelled him to worldwide prominence. He reprised the character in the Marvel blockbusters โThe Avengersโ and โThor: The Dark World.โ Hemsworthโs other feature credits include โSnow White and the Huntsmanโ and โRush,โ and he has starring roles in โCyberโ and โIn the Heart of the Sea,โ both due out next year.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented on Oscarยฎ Sunday, March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatreยฎ at Hollywood & Highland Centerยฎ and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The presentation, produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
