The first four months of 2017 are stacked with sequels, adaptations, and remakes. There are a few originals in there, but how many of them will succeed.

Looking at all of the scheduled releases, the best ones with a shot of doing epic business at the box office are M. Nighty Shyamalan’s Split and Vin Diesel’s return in xXx: Return of Xander Cage in January; Sexy sequel Fifty Shades Darker, animated The Lego Batman Movie, and Matt Damon-starrer The Great Wall in February; Hugh Jackman’s return as the Wolverine in Logan, a return to Kong: Skull Island, and Disney’s musical adaptation Beauty and the Beast in March; and street racing sequel The Fate of the Furious in April.

There could very easily be other hits, but these are the best examples of what the season has to offer that are surefire hits in the making.

To introduce you to the upcoming films, there will be two preview articles every month and this introduction every four months. The Season Preview article will focus on one of three seasons Spring Season (January through April), Blockbuster Season (May through August) and Oscar Season (September through December). In these introductory articles, I will give you the current release schedule for the specified season, which may change as the release dates get closer.
