This evening, we have three new dismal film trailers including Saw 3D, Drive Angry and Let Me In.

SAW 3D

Plot Summary: The seventh and purportedly final installment of the popular bloody horror franchise Saw featuring the righteous serial killer Jigsaw.
Release Date: October 22, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: C
Commentary: It’s a teaser for sure, but it’s still not a very strong one. They play heavily on the 3D element in the trailer even though most audiences can probably guess, but I expect little more than further pointless gimmicks. Let’s just hope the traps aren’t equally pointless.
Rating: B
Commentary: The 3D Motion poster displayed over at IMP Awards is a rather interesting design. The various lumps on the eye gives a new meaning to the word eye popping. It continues with the same light cream color background, but that’s the only continued element from past posters.

Oscar Chances: None.

DRIVE ANGRY

Plot Summary: A man goes vigilante to get back his daughter’s baby from the men who took the baby and killed the daughter.
Release Date: February 11, 2011

Trailer

Poster

Rating: D+
Commentary: It’s a preview trailer from Comic-Con, but there’s sufficient data here to suggest a terrible, awful movie. The February release further confirms that. Cage’s voice over is terrible and there’s no performance on the screen. The sad part is that along with Halle Berry, Cage may have fallen the farthest from his Oscar win.
Rating: None
Commentary: I don’t review placeholders.

Oscar Chances: None.

LET ME IN

Plot Summary: A remake of the acclaimed Swedish horror film Let the Right One In about a strange child who drinks the blood of the living.
Release Date: October 1, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: D
Commentary: There were so many things I worried about in an American retelling of the terrific film Let the Right One In and this trailer hits nearly every one of those problems from too many shot-for-shot selections, to poor performances and a general lack of respect for the original.
Rating: C-
Commentary: The first poster, though richly detailed in its minimalist approach, lacks any real idea of what the film stands for. It merely suggests a bloody film with a female protagonist.
Rating: B-
Commentary: While the second poster doesn’t give any concept of the film’s subject, it’s a devilishly clever image that uses the winter setting of the film and the snow angels made within it as a suggestive jumping point for a slight trail of blood.

Oscar Chances: None.
