For our sixth Rundown article, we have two categories where the shortest Oscar winners will be crowned. After the jump, you’ll find our winner and runner-up predictions for Best Animated Short Film and Best Live Action Short Film as well as general commentary about the race. Tomorrow, we’ll cover the newest Oscar category, one of the most controversial.

- The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (O)
- La Luna

- Wild Life (New)(R)

- A Morning Stroll (R)

Wesley Lovell: My best predictions have come not from watching the shorts, but picking the best title. This helped with Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase, so it may work for The Flying Books as well.
Peter J. Patrick: I’m just taking a shot in the dark on this one and going with the titles that seem most Oscar friendly.
Tripp Burton: I will most likely reevaluate this when I see all the nominees in a couple of weeks. Until then, I can only go by the plot synopses, and Dimanche looks the most Academy friendly.
Best Live Action Short Film
Winner Predictions
- Pentecost (New)(R)
- Raju (O) (New)(R)
- The Shore
- Time Freak
- Tuba Atlantic
Runner-Up Predictions
- The Shore (R) (R)
- Time Freak (R)

Wesley Lovell: I haven’t seen any of these, so any guess I might make would be purely based on name and subject matter, which isn’t the same as watching them. Raju seems like the most Oscar voter-friendly entry in the bunch.
Peter J. Patrick: Another shot in the dark which is what I usually do with this category and I’m often right.
Tripp Burton: I will most likely reevaluate this when I see all the nominees in a couple of weeks. Until then, I can only go by the plot synopses, and Raju looks the most Academy friendly.
