Welcome to The Morning After, where I share with you what I’ve seen over the past week either in film or television. On the film side, if I have written a full length review already, I will post a link to that review. Otherwise, I’ll give a brief snippet of my thoughts on the film with a full review to follow at some point later. For television shows, seasons and what not, I’ll post individual comments here about each of them as I see fit.
So, here is what I watched this past week:
Iron Man 3
I will have a lot to say in my full review of this film when it publishes, but for now, I’ll be brief. This is a worthy follow-up to The Avengers and a significant improvement over the second film in the Iron Man series. I may be tiring of Robert Downey Jr., but he does a terrific job in this outing again, one of the few strong elements of the second movie.
The number of unnecessary characters has been reduced and those that are submitted here seem to figure in more fluidly than in the prior film and with nary a S.H.I.E.L.D. in sight, it is a more pared down and enjoyable affair. The plot is stitched together well with few quibbles to be found, but this is aided by the performance of Ben Kingsley whose feature film work of late has been somewhat lacking. It’s entertaining, reasonably well paced and filled with all the elements of the original Iron Man that made it such a terrific film. It’s still hard to beat the original, but it was a good effort and proves to be one of the strongest third-film superhero adventures so far made.
