Welcome to The Morning After, where I share with you what movies I’ve seen over the past week. Below, you will find short reviews of those movies along with a star rating. Full length reviews may come at a later date.

So, here is what I watched this past week:

Finding Dory

After last year’s Inside Out, a sequel doesn’t seem nearly as exciting, even to the smash hit Finding Nemo. It’s also nearly impossible to live up to those expectations. Compared to Cars 2, this is certainly an impressive outing, though it isn’t quite as good as its predecessor.

Being one of the few people to feel that Monsters University was better than Monsters, Inc., it was possible I could feel the same way about this film in relation to its predecessor. That was not to be the case. While both films stick closer to the amusing comedy angles, this one seems to try very hard to avoid drama whenever possible. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a couple of tear-pulling moments, but it just doesn’t feel the same.

The touching moments are genuinely touching and the humorous moments are superb. The structure fits perfectly and while it may feel like it might be Odyssian in length at times, there’s not limit to the fun times to be had. Even when it’s being amazingly predictable, it’s still a fun predictable.
