NEW YORK, NY (August 19, 2013)– Joel and Ethan Coen, T Bone Burnett, and Scott Rudin announced today a benefit concert entitled ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER TIME: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF “INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS,” which will take place at The Town Hall in New York City on Sunday, September 29, 2013. The concert is inspired by music from the upcoming Coen Brothers’ film, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, which is set in the 1960’s Greenwich Village folk music scene. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the National Recording Preservation Foundation.

Produced by the film’s writer/directors Joel and Ethan Coen and its executive music producer T Bone Burnett, the star-studded concert reunites the trio behind O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the highly successful concert events launched in conjunction with that film. ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER TIME: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF “INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS” will feature live performances of the film’s music, as well as songs from the early 1960s that inspired the film. Artists performing at the concert include The Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens of Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lake Street Dive, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Milk Carton Kids, Marcus Mumford, Conor Oberst, Punch Brothers, Secret Sisters, Patti Smith, Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings, Willie Watson, and Jack White. Stars of the film will also perform at the event, including Oscar Isaac (who plays the title role in the film), Carey Mulligan, John Goodman and Stark Sands.

Tickets to the concert will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 12:00 PM EDT at Ticketmaster.com.

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, written and directed by Academy Awardยฎ winners Joel and Ethan Coen and based on their original screenplay, was produced by Scott Rudin and Joel and Ethan Coen. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, and Justin Timberlake.INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS recently won the Grand Prix at the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival, and will also screen at this year’s New York Film Festival. The film, which will be distributed by CBS Films in the U.S., begins its theatrical run on December 6.

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS follows a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac) is at a crossroads. Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles-some of them of his own making. Living at the mercy of both friends and strangers, scaring up what work he can find, Llewyn’s misadventures take him from the baskethouses of the Village to an empty Chicago club – on an odyssey to audition for a music mogul – and back again.

Brimming with music performed by Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan (as Llewyn’s married Village friends), as well as Marcus Mumford and Punch Brothers, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS – in the tradition of O Brother, Where Art Thou? – is infused with the transportive sound of another time and place. An epic on an intimate scale, it represents the Coen Brothers’ fourth collaboration with multiple-Grammy and Academy Awardยฎ-winning music producer T Bone Burnett. Marcus Mumford is associate music producer.

Nonesuch Records releases the soundtrack to INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Produced by T Bone Burnett, Joel Coen, and Ethan Coen, with Marcus Mumford as its associate producer, the album features 12 new recordings created especially for the film and soundtrack. Also included is a never-before-released recording of Bob Dylan performing his song “Farewell,” which was originally recorded during the sessions for his album The Times They Are A-Changin’, and is available exclusively on this soundtrack.

The National Recording Preservation Foundation is an independent, nonprofit charitable corporation established by the U.S. Congress for the purpose of supporting archives, libraries, cultural institutions and others committed to preserving America’s radio, music and recorded sound heritage. www.recordingpreservation.org

Press Release: “The Fifth Beatle” to Feature Forwards by Billy J. Kramer and Andrew Loog Oldham

THE FIFTH BEATLE TO FEATURE FOREWORDS BY BILLY J. KRAMER & ANDREW LOOG OLDHAM!

โ€œIf anyone was the Fifth Beatle, it was Brian.โ€โ€”Paul McCartney

AUGUST 20, TORONTO, ONโ€”The anticipation around The Fifth Beatle continues to grow as Dark Horse announces the involvement of music legends Billy J. Kramer and Andrew Loog Oldham lending their words and support to this remarkable piece of graphic literature chronicling the life of Beatlesโ€™ manager, Brian Epstein. Billy J. Kramer was managed by Epstein in the 1960โ€™s and had a string of hits including โ€œDo You Want to Know a Secret?โ€, โ€œBad to Meโ€, and โ€œLittle Childrenโ€; and Andrew Loog Oldham was The Beatlesโ€™ publicist in 1963 before he went on to discover, produce and manage The Rolling Stones. Today, Kramer continues to record and release albums, and Oldham is a bestselling author and broadcast personality.

More than merely the story of โ€œThe Man Who Made the Beatles,โ€ The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the desire to leave behind a legacy, amidst the struggle to overcome crushing personal obstacles and insurmountable odds. Written by multiple Tony Awardโ€“winning producer Vivek J. Tiwary (Green Dayโ€™s American Idiot, The Addams Family, Mel Brooksโ€™ The Producers) and painted by fanboy favorite Andrew C. Robinson (Dusty Star, King Conan, Starman, Superman) The Fifth Beatle will be released on November 19.

โ€œTelling the Brian Epstein story in The Fifth Beatle has been a true labor-of-love, as I’ve long considered Epstein my “Historical Mentorโ€ and someone I never had the good fortune to meet, but whose life story I have been greatly inspired by and have tried to learn from. So it is incredibly humbling and affirming to have the input and support of Andrew Loog Oldham and Billy J. Kramer, two music industry superstars who truly knew Brian Epstein. I’m extremely grateful to them both, and I can’t wait to share their illuminating contributions with our readers,โ€ said Tiwary.

The standard hardcover edition will be available for $19.99 in an oversized library format. Both a collectorโ€™s-edition and limited edition hardcover of this groundbreaking graphic novel will also be available, featuring a wraparound, textured cover and a section of bonus materials including Beatles and Brian Epstein memorabilia, artist sketches, and alternate covers, for $49.99 and $99.99.

Tiwary will be signing limited prints of The Fifth Beatle at FanExpo America in Toronto, Ontario this Friday & Saturday, August 23rd & 24th at the Dark Horse booth #856 at XX

Tiwary is represented by David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis at Circle of Confusion.

Special Event โ€“ U.S. Release via Picturehouse on September 27, 2013

Synopsis:
Award-winning filmmaker Nimrรณd Antal (Predators, Kontroll) creates a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture event, Metallica Through the Never. The music-driven feature film combines a bold narrative and spectacular live-performance footage of one of the most popular and influential rock bands in history to produce a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience. Emerging young star Dane DeHaan (The Place Beyond the Pines, Kill Your Darlings, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) portrays Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission during Metallicaโ€™s roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena.

As the band performs its most iconic songs for thousands of their fans in a never-before-seen performance created exclusively for the film, Trip is dispatched outside the arena to meet a disabled delivery truck and recover a mysterious item being transported to the show. But the seemingly simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure when his car is hit by an out-of-control driver. Trip, dazed and bruised, climbs out of his van only to find himself pitched in the middle of a tense standoff between angry protesters and charging riot police. In the ensuing mayhem, a vicious masked horseman sets his murderous eye on Trip while delivering indiscriminate deathblows to rioters and cops alike. Fleeing through the desolate, post-apocalyptic urban streetscape, Trip has only his wits to protect him as he attempts to deliver the bandโ€™s precious cargo and avoid becoming the horsemanโ€™s next victim.

Featuring dazzling pyrotechnics, the most elaborate live-performance stage ever built and imagery drawn from the bandโ€™s trailblazing iconography, the immersive 360-degree show creates a mind-bending, ear-shattering mirror image of the destruction and chaos of Tripโ€™s journey. Metallica Through the Neverโ€™s state-of-the-art 3-D photography, captured using up to 24 cameras simultaneously, engulfs audiences in one of the most innovative and exciting cinematic experiences ever imagined.

Metallica is James Hetfield (vocals, guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (guitar, background vocals) and Robert Trujillo (bass, background vocals). The band has sold over 105 million albums worldwide and was one of the top ten grossing touring act of 2012, generating $86.1 million in ticket sales from just 30 shows.

The film will be released by Picturehouse in North America on September 27, 2013, exclusively in over 300 IMAXยฎ 3D Theatres, and will expand into additional theaters on October 4, 2013.

Press Release: Sundance Selects Releasing “Blue Is the Warmest Color” with NC-17 Rating

SUNDANCE SELECTS TO RELEASE KECHICHE’S PALME D’OR WINNER BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR WITH NC-17 RATING IN U.S.

NEW YORK, NY (August 20, 2013) – Sundance Selects announced today that they will release Abdellatif Kechiche’s 2013 Cannes Film Festival Palme D’Or Winner BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR with the MPAA rating of NC-17 in the United States, as opposed to trimming the film or releasing the film Unrated. With a screenplay by Kechiche and Ghalya Lacroix, and starring Lea Seydoux and Adรจle Exarchopoulos, the film was produced by Alcatraz Films, Quat’Sous Films and Wild Bunch. The film is being rated NC-17 for “explicit sexual content.” Sundance Selects will release the film in theaters beginning on October 25, 2013, on the heels of screening as part of the 2013 New York Film Festival.

Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “This is a landmark film with two of the best female performances we have ever see on screen. The film is first and foremost a film about love, coming of age and passion. We refuse to compromise Kechiche’s vision by trimming the film for an R rating, and we have every confidence that BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR will play in theaters around the country regardless. An NC-17 rating no longer holds the stigma it once did, and we look forward to bringing this unforgettable film to audiences nationwide. We believe this film will leave a lasting imprint as the LAST TANGO IN PARIS for a whole new generation.”

BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR centers on a 15-year-old girl named Adรจle (Exarchopoulos) who is climbing to adulthood and dreams of experiencing her first love. A handsome male classmate falls for her hard, but an unsettling erotic reverie upsets the romance before it begins. Adรจle imagines that the mysterious, blue-haired girl she encountered in the street slips into her bed and possesses her with an overwhelming pleasure. That blue-haired girl is a confident older art student named Emma (Seydoux), who will soon enter Adรจle’s life for real, making way for an intense and complicated love story that spans a decade and is touchingly universal in its depiction.

An NC-17 rated motion picture is one that, in the view of the Rating Board, most parents would consider patently too adult for their children 17 and under. No children under the age of 17 and under can be admitted into theaters to see the film. The rating signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience. An NC-17 rating can be based on violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse or any other element that most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children. The film received a rating of “12” by the French Ministry of Culture, which indicates the film is unsuitable only for children younger than 12 years of age in that country.

Sundance Selects’ sister broadcast label IFC TV recently released Kirby Dick’s documentary THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED that explored how flawed the ratings system is in the United States. In relation to this film, Sehring said, “We have intimate knowledge of how the MPAA works, and it is unquestionable that changes must be made. That the board finds violence acceptable for young viewers while condemning sex is egregious.”

When BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR won the Palme D’Or at this year’s Cannes film festival, Jury president Steven Spielberg called the film “a great love story that made all of us feel privileged to be a fly on the wall, to see this story of deep love and deep heartbreak evolve from the beginning. We didn’t think about how it was going to play, we just were really happy that someone had the courage to tell this story the way he did…The issue of gay marriage is one that many brave states in America are resolving in a way that suits all of us that are in favor of gay marriage. But I think actually this film carries a very strong message, a very positive message.”

Sundance Selects is a sister label to IFC Films and IFC Midnight, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.

New York, NY (August 20, 2013) โ€“ Screenvision announced today that in partnership with event-based theatrical distributor, Area 23a and Asphalt Films, it will release OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE SKY in select theaters across the country in an exclusive engagement on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. The screenings coincide with the 12th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. Filmmaker Danielle Gardnerโ€™s riveting documentary gives moviegoers a unique opportunity to experience an insider’s perspective on 9/11. Darryl Schaffer, EVP of Operations & Exhibitor Relations, Screenvision said, โ€œOur partnership with Area 23a and Asphalt Films allows us to bring this moving documentary to audiences nationwide.โ€

Directed by Gardner, a September 11th family member, OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE SKY tells the story of Wall Street powerhouse Cantor Fitzgerald and its notorious CEO, Howard Lutnick, who became famous for the worst of all possible reasons; 658 of their employees were missing in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Though Cantor suffered more casualties than any other organization, their story was soon pushed aside as the media ambushed Lutnick, who went from face-of-the-tragedy to pariah within weeks. Press Release: “Inuk” To Open October 4

INUK

a film by Mike Magidson; co-writtend and co-produced by Jean-Michel Huctin; opens in New York on October 4; opens in LA on October 4

Filmmaker Mike Magidson is available for interviews

Roxie Presents is proud to announced the US Theatrical release of INUK, a film by Mike Magidson. Greenland’s Oscar submission last year and winner of multiple international film festival awards, INUK will open at the Quad Cinema in New York and at The Royal Los Angeles on October 4 and in San Francisco on October 2. A national release will follow.
In Greenlandโ€™s capital, sixteen year-old Inuk lives a troubled life with his alcoholic mother and violent step-father. One morning, after pulling the half-frozen boy out of an abandoned car, the social services send Inuk North, to a childrenโ€™s home on a tiny island in the middle of the arctic sea-ice. There he meets Ikuma, a polar bear hunter, who takes him on an epic dog sled trip on ice. Despite the bitter cold and fragile sea-ice, the most difficult journey will be the one they must make within themselves.

With stunning cinematography, shot on the sea ice in -30 C, INUK features the performances of teenagers from the Uummannaq Childrenโ€™s Home and local hunters, all playing roles close to their real lives. Created as an original road-movie on the sea ice,
INUK is both an authentic story of Greenland today, a country torn between tradition and modernity, and a universal story about the quest for identity, transmission and rebirth after the deepest of wounds,

A major success in Greenland, INUK sold more tickets than films like Men in Black III, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games.

About the director:
Mike Magidson was born at the height of the 1967 โ€œsummer of loveโ€ in Oakland, California. After getting a college degree, Mike immediately set off to Los Angeles where he was cast in a series of small theatre productions. Unable to pay his rent with his modest actor fees, Mike took a job as an apprentice editor with one of Hollywoodโ€™s top ranked trailer producers, Intralink Film Graphic Design, where he began to dream of a career as a filmmaker. Following his heart and a strong curiosity for French culture, in 1992 Mike moved to Paris, France. After several years editing for such reputable directors as Pan Nalin, Antoine de Maximy, and Jean-Michel Carrรฉ, in 1998 Mike borrowed a friendโ€™s camera and made his first award winning documentary, Kanada. Eleven years later, Mike has written and directed over twenty documentaries and shorts. INUK is his first feature-length narrative film.

THE DOG

(Acquisition Title)

TIFF Docs – Directed by Allison Berg and Frank Keraudren

WORLD PREMIERE

Coming of age in the 1960s, John Woltowicz’ libido was unrestrained even by the libertine standards of the era, with multiple wives and lovers, both women and men. In August 1972, he attempted to rob a Brooklyn bank to finance his lover’s sex-reassignment surgery, resulting in a fourteen-hour hostage situation that was broadcast live on. Three years later, John was portrayed by Al Pacino as โ€œSonny,โ€ and his crime immortalized in one of the most iconic New York movies of all time, Dog Day Afternoon. The film had a profound influence on Wojtowicz (who pronounced his name “Woto-wits”), and when he emerged from a six-year prison sentence, he was known by his self-imposed nickname: “The Dog.”

Drawing upon extraordinary archival footage, the film shuffles between the 1970s and the 2000s. Touching upon the sexual revolution of the 1970s, we gain a first-hand perspective on New York’s historical gay liberation movement in which Wojtowicz played an active role. In later footage, he remains a subversive force, backed by the unconditional love and headstrong wit of his mother Terry. The hows and whys of the bank robbery are recounted in gripping detail by Wojtowicz and various eyewitnesses, and donโ€™t necessarily always align with one another.

Directors Allison Berg and Frank Keraudren began filming The Dog in 2002, and their long-term dedication pays off in this unforgettable portrait capturing all of the subject’s complexity. John is, by turns, lovable, maniacal, heroic, and self-destructive. To call him larger than life feels like an understatement. Passionate and profane, The Dog makes no apologies for being who he is: “Live every day as if it’s your last and whoever doesn’t like it can go fuck themselves and a rubber duck.”

Allison Berg was born in New York City. She received the Special Jury Award at 2004 SXSW for her debut feature documentary Witches in Exile. The Dog is her latest film.

Frank Keraudren studied film at New York University. He co-directed The Last Cigarette in 1999 and Who Wants To Be President? in 2000, and co-produced and edited Allison Berg’s Witches in Exile. The Dog is his latest film.
