Below are the nominees for this year’s Directors Guild of America awards.
Darren Aronofsky – Black Swan
David Fincher – The Social Network
Tom Hooper – The King’s Speech
Christopher Nolan – Inception
David O. Russell – The Fighter
No Coen Brothers? True Grit was a helluva lot better than The Fighter.
David O. Russell is a well respected director. My guess is that they didn’t see enough Coens in True Grit and had rewarded them a good deal in the past, so felt the need to spread it around. I’m more surprised that Danny Boyle isn’t on the list for 127 Hours which was an innovative film that was executed magnificently.
I believe David O. Russell’s work in The Fighter is pretty good but can’t be compared to Danny Boyle’s incredible work in 127 Hours.
The other 4 nominees are well deserved. This is a very obvious year regarding who’s the best. I like That.
I hope the academy won’t let themselves be caught up in The Fighter Fever.
