If you had BAFTA on your BINGO card for being utterly useless this year, you may have just won all the marbles. The Mauritanian surprises with a Best Film nomination, but nothing for Directing. Meanwhile, Promising Young Woman gets in to the small Best Film slate while getting left off for directing and acting. These nominations are completely atypical and even more British than usual. They might as well move themselves back after the Academy Awards if they are going to be this incompetent in their predictive capabilities.
