The DC Area film Critics have announced their preliminary nominations for this year’s awards. They will announce their winners on Monday (December 5, 2016). Looking over this list, the usual suspects (Moonlight, La La Land, and Manchester by the Sea are here. There are also strong showings by Arrival, Hell or High Water and Jackie. There aren’t too many glaring omissions, though Lion‘s paltry showing is telling. (Note: Jackie technically received 6 nominations, but the nod for Best Portrayal of Washington DC is a very specific category and would not be fair to count into the film’s tally. It’s also why Loving‘s three nominations aren’t listed below since one of them comes from that other category.).
