Houston critics don’t have a problem with any of their winners as most of them are major contenders for Oscar nominations. Their only selection that might struggle is Zhao Shuzhen for The Farewell. As Hong Chau can attest, critical acclaim isn’t enough to get you to the Oscars. Though, as Zhao can attest, her film is much better received.
