As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).

Only two groups announced anything in the last week, which doesn’t make for an exciting one, but the upcoming week is going to be chock full of news. Several guilds are announcing nominations on top of the Golden Globe awards being on Sunday.

But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Big Winners

If Beale Street Could Talk had a major boost in its hefty Austin film critics haul and the film also picked up several prominent nominations from the Online Film Critics. Since those were the only two groups to announce this past week, it’s a solid take.
The Favourite also earned several nominations from both Austin and the OFCS, which makes it a solid week for the film on its persistent push towards the Oscars.
Roma didn’t get nearly as many nominations as the other two, but it did well enough to be considered a winner this week.

Big Losers

First Man continues to pick up tech citations but little else.
At Eternity’s Gate has also not been much of a winner for Willem Dafoe who’s looking to have to wait even longer for that elusive Oscar.
The Wife started out strong for star Glenn Close as a major Oscar contender; however, the film has petered out with later critics groups and unless she can win one of the televised awards, her position will be much weaker now than it once was.
