The headline, though, is in error – it was 66 years and 1 day from Hitler’s death which occurred on April 30, 1945 and was announced on May 1, 1945.

I think it’s that whole ’00’s ’10’s confusion area. I have had a little bit of trouble sometimes remembering that there’s an extra 10 years in there.
