Looking at the Weekend: Sep. 25-27, 2020

Another weekend with no major new wide releases. Either this will become the trend through the fall or it’s a hiccup for the late-September period that is often weaker in terms of prominent releases.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer didn’t do enough to sell this actino thriller.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Good cast seems to be wasted in soulless crime drama.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like a great cast in a mediocre movie. The trailer also gives too much away.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A familiar-looking courtroom drama without much excitement.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Well-intentioned look into the foster care system might play better on TV than in theatres.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It is an earnest trailer, but one can guess the ending, so it feels a little too pat.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A wonderful cast and an important subject matter make this one look quite compelling.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Bette Midler looks like a hoot as Bella Abzug in this otherwise tedious looking enterprise.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I like both the lead and the director, but the trailer felt a little flat and just not as exciting as Gloria Steinem’s life should be.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A dull-looking sci-fi film with a confounding plot.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like another dreary look at the future of our world.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A confusing trailer for this dystopian film does not sell one on seeing it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Another interesting cast and subject matter could be worth checking out.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an overwrought film with an obvious social message.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It will probably be fun and charming and little more than that. A typical British feelgood movie.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A dime-a-dozen action thriller with little in the way of a compelling plot.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Tedious looking actioner.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): For a trailer that promises that the fate of the world depends on the action involved, it certainly was dull, which is not a good sign for the movie.
