With little else in the way of new releases, it’s clear Honest Thief will top the box office. If there’s one box office draw that appeals to audiences in middle America where theaters are open, it’s Liam Neeson as his movies tend to make decent money in those regions.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Another paint-by-numbers Liam Neeson thriller that doesn’t hold anything new or interesting for me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another generic actioner from Liam Neeson.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks a lot like all the other thrillers that Liam Neeson has made lately, so it is hard to get too excited by it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like another in a long line of corporate malfeasance movies and while it might have a slightly different tack, most of it is overly familiar.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Overheated melodrama with cardboard villains doesn’t move me.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks more enjoyable than last year’s Dark Waters, but it seems similar enough to it and countless others.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like your garden variety indie romance.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Mostly silent drama about the culture shock of a Syrian refugee in Sweden has possibilities but they don’t seem to be explored very well.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The imagery of the trailer is pretty, but I have no idea what the plot of this film is supposed to be.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A period drama about a tortured artist trying to find their place in the world of literature. It’s a story we’ve seen far too often.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Italian version of oft-filmed minor Jack London novel doesn’t look much more interesting than past versions.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A man tries to rise above his humble beginnings to become a writer, but a muddled trailer does little to explain how that happens.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A cheapy indie comedy set in the world of stand up comics. It’s a slightly different take on numerous films that came before it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Droll comedy about a struggling stand-up comic looks better than most so-called recent comedies.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): For a movie about a stand up comic, the trailer had mighty few laughs.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): College-set comedy drama looks just a bit like every other one that’s been made in just this year alone.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Grand Jury Prize winner at 2020 SXSW Film Festival shows promise but might sell better with a different title.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer talks about it being a romantic film, but that is missing in what I saw. A terrible title is not going to help in selling tickets.
