Two films release wide this week in an effort to take down #1 No Time to Die. The Last Duel might have actors people recognize, but it looks like a very dreary historical drama and those aren’t that popular. Halloween Kills, on the other hand, has much more potential. The film is part of a successfully refreshed horror franchise that brought original star Jamie Lee Curtis back into the fold. The prior film’s success suggests it will top this coming October weekend.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ll admit that this franchise isn’t one I’ve stayed on top of. There are several films I haven’t seen, though I remain intrigued by it, as I do all slasher pics.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Enough already with the Halloween sequels.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I haven’t seen any of the many previous films, and this one does not entice me to start with this one.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The mediocre buzz on this film doesn’t give me much interest in it in spite of a solid cast.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): One of two Ridley Scott films in Oscar contention this year.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Historical dramas can do well at the Oscars, though this one sounds a bit long, if still interesting. Ridley Scott also has The House of Gucci coming out, which might be where he scores a directing nomination.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This seem like a rather milquetoast affair.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Unappealing trailer does nothing for me.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not make me interested in the lead or why we should care for him, though if the songs are original for the most part, one of them might capture a nom.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m almost intrigued by the flm’s premise, but the trailer doesn’t do the best job selling it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Award-winning Danish film about an ISIS kidnapping victim looks like it could be worth your time.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It will probably be an effective thriller with a real life hostage situation going on.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): An interesting concept doesn’t always work and that we’ve heard so little about this film suggests this one probably doesn’t.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I’ve always liked time travel stories – this one looks like one of the better ones.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It claims to be a film about time changing, yet none of that come across in the trailer which is truthfully sort of boring.
