Once again, we only have one new wide release for the weekend and with this being a holiday weekend, usually one of the biggest of the year, it will be interesting to see just how many people actually make it to theaters.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The only reason I’m even remotely interested in this is because I enjoyed the original. The new trailer doesn’t look that interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Seven years after the original secured an Oscar nod this could repeat, but it doesn’t look like a winner to me.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks cute, but probably will not be much more than that. The only reason that it might get a nomination, but definitely not a win, is due to the weak competition brought on by the pandemic.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’ve never been a Ron Howard fan, especially after A Beautiful Mind, but this looks bad even for him.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Mixed reviews don’t bode well for this once highly anticipated potential award winner.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer looks interesting, but the reviews have not been kind. Glenn Close is probably assured of a nomination, but all the others are iffy.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Conceptually, I’m sure this film will be fine, but the trailer doesn’t excite me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Well-intentioned if minor film about mental illness and homelessness.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It feels compelling, yet I worry that it will be predictable to figure out as it goes along.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I’d love to see a good movie about David Bowie. Emphasis on the word “good.”
Peter J. Patrick (PP): An unauthorized biopic of David Bowie with none of his music played by an actor who looks nothing like him.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This should be a dazzling biopic of a larger than life star, but it feels rather small and dull. The trailer has none of his music, which would help draw people in.
