There are four wide releases coming out this weekend and only one of them has a chance of becoming a blockbuster and that’s because it’s part of a franchise of blockbusters. Terminator: Dark Fate is said to pick up where Terminator 2: Judgement Day left off, ignoring the subsequent sequels of questionable quality. With Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzeneggar back, it’s likely the film will be a much bigger success at the box office than the prior entries, but will the bad taste left by the previous sequels still in the audience’s mouths, it might struggle on opening weekend and only prove a blockbuster on subsequent weekends. Either that or the fans will be forgiving. We’ll have to wait and see.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The animation isn’t great and the voice acting is terrible. This holds no appeal for me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Minor animated film appears to be aimed at preschoolers.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like a pretty poor film in all ways, animation, story, and dialogue.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A film about an important historical figure could be most compelling even if word out of the festival circuit wasn’t great.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Early reviews haven’t been kind, but Harriet Tubman’s story should find a long life on home video after its theatrical run.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer looks pretty exciting, though the first reviews were not great. Cynthia Erivo will most likely get an Oscar nomination, but I am unsure about all the other categories.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer didn’t give me any reason to believe the film would be good and Edward Norton’s attitude in the last few years is even more of a turn-off.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Edward Norton’s second film as a director and first as a writer could garner him an Oscar nod for his adapted screenplay.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not certain that the world needs another noir film with a quirky lead, but perhaps it will be better than it looks.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The last film in the series wasn’t that great and Schwarzeneggar isn’t my favorite actor, but if it’s more in line with the first two films, it could be worth the time.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This 6th film in the franchise picks up where T2 left off, but it doesn’t look much better than the abysmal T3, 4 and 5 films.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I really liked the first two films of the series, but they just haven’t been as good since and the reviews do not make this sound like a can’t miss film.
